Colorado State Fair

Brianne and I went to the Colorado State Fair. Ah the Colorado State Fair. Nothing beats the smell of livestock at 100 degrees, it makes a man feel alive. So hot in fact that the camera decided to crap out twards the end of the day. We decided to go early to catch the livestock judging and to get some pictures of the food vendors before the crowds came in.

It was quite the event with lots to see and do.

Preparing the days BBQ

This place was swamped once it opened

NINJA BEEF!!!!

Fred must have one hell of a recipe.

Food is better on a stick

Best in town? How many people are serving this?

It came with a business card for the local cardiologist.

Brianne and I took one of these down. Nothing like ordering a bucket o' fries.

Finally my prayers have been answered!

This was quite the savior on this perticularly hot day.

Together at last, Cookies and Acid.

After the strool down heart attack alley, we went to the first livestock competition of the day, the Horse show.

The attire was my favorite part. More clothes should be bedazzeld.

Who says horse showing is a girls game.

That must be one big bottle of nail polish.

It takes a brave dude to take that stance.

Staring down the competetion.

The high stakes game of judging.

This is the pool for the sport of Dock Dogs. I was jealous the pups got to go swimming.

After the Horse show, we decided to mosey over to the 4H buildings to take a look at the hard work and talent of the kids.

The great learning tool that is poster board.

These had alot of useful information, like knots...

and that hiking is fun...

and hoof and mouth disease. Oh kids today.

We were fortunate enough to catch this speech from a 12yr old girl on the importantance of proper bow saftey and storage as well as the finer points of bow hunting. Not something I would think to use power point on, but to each his own.

We moved over to the baking displays, show caseing the future stars of the culinary world. Here we have the pies. Everyone gets a ribbon...

...everyone.

These were pretty impressive. Where we these kids when Brianne needed a wedding cake?

All cakes. I liked the crushed graham cracker sand.

The new little black dress. She just needs to knit up a jacket and it's ready to hit the town.

The beaded arts have come a long way.

Pipe cleaners at their finest. A classic scene from history.

Whoever made this must have been Mad.

Wall o' bugs.

Nothings says creepy like a wall full of dolls. Some of them are particularly scary, as you will see.

Spitting image.

This is what is a called a 'reborn'. May it haunt your dreams.

Fly away bird, you are not safe!

She must have caught a glimpse of the reborn.

This was in a section of dolls showcasing antiques.

Traumatized from the doll-wall, Bri and I headed back outside to the heat. Here's one of the shows that was set up in the park; The Lumberjack Show.
We also saw a Swamp Master wrestle with some crocs.

Good old Mutton Bustin. When I was a kid we didn't wear a helmet and i truned out just feni.

Missing the smell of hot animals, we went to the small livestock building

Miles and miles of chickens

Cloning?

There's a pair of socks in there somewhere

Rabbit judging

Pig judging

Nothing draws a crowd like sheep

Seperate from the fair is the carnival, which is just as big. It was neat to see all the old rides I used to love when I was a kid. I wouldn't set foot on them now.

Oldie but goodie.

I doubt the freaks in there were any scarier then the carnies.

All in all it was a wonderful trip. From the perfect weather driving down, to the free parking spot across the street, to the bucket o' fries and build your own slushie; it was the perfect State Fair day.
We'll see you there next year!!
