Colorado State Fair 2011

It's August and that means it's Fair Season! And what a way to kick it off than with a trip to the Colorado State Fair. Has it been a year already? My how time flies.

This year we have an interactive exhibit from Lego where kids of all ages could build to their hearts content.

Brianne and I like to get to the fair early so we can catch some of the judgeing that happens before the rest of the fair starts. This morning was horses.

We decided to head over the the 4-H buildings to see how the kids did at baking and crafts and catch the kids setting up for the creative cooks contest.

Brianne surveys the vendors, a growing mom needs her fair food.

Looking a lot better than last year

The theme seemed to revolve around the outdoors and camping

A look at some of the awesome cakes the kids whipped up

I agree!

(That was) food on a bbq

This one pulls of the grill effect a little bit better

This looks familar....

Everyone loves a zombie wedding cake

Some funny tombstones (click on pictures to expand)

Great to see there will be another generation with not only nerds, but nerds who can bake.

Getting ready for the Creative Cooks Contest.

Sounds yummy

Everquest?

How I missed you bug wall

Homemade wind collectors

So much to learn...

The age old question finally solved! And all it took was the mind of a child.

Beehive

What are we teaching these kids?

A spitting image of Brianne and I, don't you think?

Here we have a pretty impressive miniature of a war scene from Germany 1945

And now we come to a part I always dread but dare never miss, The Wall of CREEPY DOLLS!!!!

Give us a kiss

The Main Event of the Doll Wall is of course the Living Dolls with their take on stuffed babies.

That's how you wash babies?

Did it just blink?

Sexy

Time to get out of that nightmare and see what else this fine fair has to offer.

This year we decided to check out the Fine Arts Building and see some wonderful pieces from Colorado Artists.

Alright, too much artsy and not enough fartsy. Pig farts to be exact. Off to the animals!

Now this is the place to be

Nothing gets you hungry like animal waste and wet hay, lets get some food.

A Slopper eh? I have heard tales of this Pueblo specialty and was waiting a whole year to see what the hype was about. We went with the Vineland United Methodist Church stand which has been at the fair ever since I was a kid.

It isn't much to look at, but the green chili was the best. A great burger that reminded me of home.

Nothing better than a side of fries. I guess maybe a side of fries the size of a dog.

And speaking of dogs, after we ate we had to check out the dock dogs and see some flying pups.

A couple of first timers.

A 10yr old Black Lab shows those young whipper snappers how it's done.

Becoming jealous of the dogs getting to swim on such a hot day, we went on to look at the pigs after their time in the lime light.

Chickens, Rabbits and Alien pods, oh my.

Some high flying entertainment

And we wrapped up the day with a marching band version of the classic song, 867-5309. Really how I think it was meant to be played.

It was another great year at the Colorado State Fair and we will be waiting with bated breath for next year. Especially so I can have another Slopper.
